Don't get too happy, I am not sending a bedtime story everyday. It is just that whilst I was transplanting seedlings today (planted 6 Jan. '02) on opening the plastic bag I was confronted by a proverbial pot of worms. I thought it may be of some use to newer members that have never seen their little clivias naked.
It was such a job to find spots to make holes that I decided to lift them all out of the pot and start from fresh. What is truly remarkable is that all this root growth has taken place via nourishment from the seed, all these roots were formed and were lying on the surface of the medium. The longest root was 10 cm, there were some with 2 roots even one with 3 seen on the palm of my hand.
In the plastic bag was just moisture, no feeding, so it shows how long a seedling can live off the seed. As we can see, some of the seeds are still very big and plump. So there you have it.
Cheers,
Loukie
