Trace elements or micronutrients are essential for plant health and growth, but in far smaller amounts than the familiar N - P - K elements, or macronutrients.
This describes a concentrated stock solution of trace elements that can be diluted in water for final use at 1 : 1000. That is, 1 mL of stock concentrate is added to 1.0 Liter of water, or about 18 drops in a quart of water. It can probably be used just as well at an even more dilute concentration, down to 1 part per 10,000 parts water.
Final Concentrations
Iron (Fe) | 1300 ppm |
Manganese (Mn) | 1390 ppm |
Zinc (Zn) | 800 ppm |
Copper (Cu) | 500 ppm |
Cobalt (Co) | 250 ppm |
Boron (B) | 500 ppm |
Molybdenum (Mo) | 100 ppm |
This solution is made from the following components:
Each componenet is dissolved in a minimal amount of water, then the two chelating agents are combined, followed by slow addition of the other components with stirring. Next, dilute the volume to a little less than 1000 mL. Adjust the pH to 7 with KOH (potassium hydroxide) solution, and finally adjust volume to exactly 1000 mL.
This concentrate does not contain iodine, which may be an essential element, because it will react with some of the other elements in the solution.
