Daylily Seedlings
The following daylilies should probably be considered semievergreen in foliage habit, but have not been tested outside this Garden.
There are large images which can be viewed by clicking on the small pictures below. The large pictures are 30 Kb to 100 Kb in size, and most are in JPEG format. Photos were made using an Olympus digital camera with video filter or are scans of pictures taken using Kodak Gold 400 negative film or Kodachrome Professional 200 slide film.
This is a second year seedling, #1191T05, which FFO'd this year a few days before June 13, 2000. The parentage is [REGAL BRAID (P. Stamile, 1995) X BYZANTIUM] and the picture is shown immediately below. This is from our 1997 seed crop and had its maiden bloom on June 14, 1999. The scapes are about 26" tall, with 8 - 12 buds this season. The flower is 5.75" X 3.2" X 2.1" (diam. X petals X sepals). This flower is wide open at 7:00 AM with overnight temperatures in the mid-60s. I'm sorry that the pollen was stored before the picture was taken.
Seedling #1101t10 is blooming for its second season now. The plant already has 6 fans, and 4 scapes; there are up to 2 branches on the larger scapes. Height is 24", and there are 10 to 20 buds. The flower is 5" across; petals are 2.9" and sepals are 2.0". This ruffled beauty does not care for the hot afternoon sun! Parentage is [EVENING ENCHANTMENT (Patrick Stamile) X BYZANTIUM (Shields)]. Seedling #1210t07. This large flower is on a second-year plant. There are 2 fans, 1 scape, and 12 buds. The height is 24". The flower is 5.5" in diameter, with petals 3.0" and sepals 1.75" wide. The parentage is [GLACIER BAY (Patrick Stamile) X BAROQUE CREME (Shields)]. Seedling #1128t02 is in its second year of blooming. The flower is 6" across, on a scape 27" tall. Parentage is [CANADIAN BORDER PATROL (Jeff Salter) X WESTFIELD BONNIE LADDIE (Shields)].
Seedling #1196t84 is from the 1997 cross [YUMA X BYZANTIUM]. The flower is about 5" across with an interesting YUMA-like edge. Petals are 2.9" and sepals are 1.8".
Seedling #1240t03 is blooming for the first time this year (2000). The flower is 5" across, on a scape 18" tall. Petals are 2.3", 2.3", and 2.5" wide; the sepals are 1.4" across. Parentage is [EVENING ENCHANTMENT (Patrick Stamile) X WATERSHIP DOWN (Steve Moldovan)]. Seedling #1024t01 is blooming for its third season this year. The flower is 5.5" in diameter, with petals 2.9 to 3.1" wide and sepals of 2.2". The plant has 4 scapes 24" in height, bearing 1 or 2 short branches and 15 to 20 buds. Parentage is [CHANCE ENCOUNTER (P. Stamile) X BYZANTIUM]. Seedling #1239t04 is from the cross [LORD OF RINGS (Steve Moldovan, 1998) X BYZANTIUM]. The flower is about 6" across, with petals 3.7" wide and sepals 2.1" wide. Height is 23 inches. The actual flower color is more of a honey pink than the image shows. First bloom in July 2000.
